One summer evening in 2017, a promise was made between best friends that the barn would be used for her son’s wedding. Both parties were ecstatic. Little did the two friends know that the wedding would be the beginning of so much more. Months later, the family woke up to a fire and realized it was the barn. It was the promise. It was the beginning. The family had to watch as valuable items and memories went up in flames.
Months after the fire, the family began to rebuild. Rebuilding the promise. Rebuilding the beginning. This barn represents love and constant sacrifice. In 2018, the friend’s son’s wedding was a great success, and weddings followed afterward. There are many times I look at the barn and wonder, “How did we get this?”, “How did we get here?”
It’s simple, and yet maybe not possible at all. Jokes aside, it is purely grace. The barn represents our marriages. It’s a promise between two parties, it’s constant sacrifices, it’s love, it’s standing in awe thinking, “How did I find this partner?”, it’s the beauty of nature, the ugliness of the fire, and the rebuilding. It is just grace.
