So… When Is the Right Time to Contact a Wedding Planner?

Let’s clear this up straight away.
There is no magical “correct” moment to contact a wedding planner.

You are not too early.
You are not too late.
And you definitely do not need to have everything figured out first.

Couples reach out at all stages. Some are freshly engaged and buzzing with excitement. Others message me with a very honest, “I think we might be in over our heads.” Both are completely normal.

If you are around a year or more out, this is when full planning support makes the biggest difference. This is the stage where decisions feel endless and everything still lives in your head. A planner helps you shape the vision, guide the budget, recommend trusted suppliers, and create a clear plan so nothing feels chaotic or rushed.

If you are six to nine months away, you are still in a great place. This is often when couples realise that planning is taking more time and energy than expected. A planner steps in to tighten things up, confirm details, keep timelines realistic, and make sure the big picture actually makes sense.

And if your wedding is coming up soon, three months or less, this is where on the day coordination becomes a lifesaver. You might have planned everything yourself, but someone still needs to take over. Someone needs to confirm suppliers, manage logistics, keep things on schedule, and quietly solve problems before you even know they exist.

That someone should not be you.
And it definitely should not be your mom or your bridesmaids.

The truth is this. The right time to contact a wedding planner is the moment you want planning to feel lighter. Less overwhelming. More enjoyable.

Whether you need support from the very beginning or just someone to take the reins at the end, help is always worth reaching out for.
