After months or years of planning a wedding and having the dreamy “I do” moment one can find themselves walking on clouds. Some might say they are on “cloud nine”. Having a wedding is dreamy and quite wonderful I might add. It is a once in a lifetime experience I will never forget. It is something that I will never take for granted.
However, have you ever heard of the “second year ich”? hmmm…I certainly did not. I do know. Hope you find this funny as I did. Whilst I was admiring a once again perfectly executed wedding. I could not help to notice the excitement, the love between the bride and her groom. I don’t think that they realised how the birds sang for them, almost like a blessing from God.
The pastor during the service was extremely passionate about how to stay married and it instantly made me think of what if I did the ‘second year ich’ differently? What if I knew this before. So, in case you do not know how to get out of it, here are some tips/tricks that stood out for me:
- Keep on dating. I know it sounds easy, but it is not. Life moves at a fast pace. You are tired or your spouse is tired.
- Play with each other. Being playful like young teenagers really keeps the spark alive or at times medical bills.
- Do not give your partner silent treatment. Talk about what you are feeling.
- Do not go to bed angry. Go and drink a coffee or coke at the kitchen table.
- PRAY, PRAY AND PRAY!! This is the magic glue that will keep you together.
The world is promoting divorce, making it accessible and acceptable. The world wants us to believe that the ‘second year ich’ is all consuming and the truth about marriage. The bible promotes marriage and the bondage between two people for eternity. In 1 Corinthians 13:4-8 it says “love is patient and kind. Love is not jealous or boastful or proud or rude. It does not demand its own way. It is not irritable, and it keeps no record of being wronged. It does not rejoice about injustice but rejoices whenever the truth wins out. Love never gives up, never loses faith, is always hopeful, and endures through every circumstance”.
In my honest opinion this is how you can stay married.
