There’s something truly special about designing a dress that captures the essence of timeless romance while adding a modern edge. The New Romantics gown, born from spontaneity and a bit of creative pressure, has become one of my favorite recent designs, and I’m excited to share the story behind it.
This dress was initially brought to life for a shoot in London—one that came together in a rush but ended up producing some of the most stunning images, captured beautifully by @tuhiphotography.
The Magic of Custom Design
The New Romantics gown is all about blending the traditional with the modern. The full, flowing tulle skirt gives that sense of timeless romance, while the bodice features a modern drape, perfectly complementing the open illusion net back. I wanted this design to highlight those beautiful lines, framing the back in a way that feels elegant yet unexpected. Paired with a veil from @veil_atelier, the look came together seamlessly—a true example of how working with custom designers allows for a cohesive, one-of-a-kind ensemble.
For me, the joy in creating custom designs is crafting something that truly reflects the bride’s personal style. With New Romantics, the delicate balance of soft fabrics and structured details makes this gown perfect for a bride who wants to make a statement while keeping things classic. Each layer of luxurious tulle adds movement and grace, while the open back provides a fresh, contemporary twist.
Personal Ties to the Shoot
What made this shoot extra special was working with our incredible model, @la_veenstra, who happens to be one of my sister’s oldest friends. Growing up together, it feels like we’ve come full circle—still playing dress-up, but this time on a much bigger stage! Having her showcase this gown in the heart of London felt like such a personal and meaningful experience.
And let’s not forget @kiss.the.bride.hair.makeup, who directed the flawless hair and makeup for this shoot all the way from South Africa. Even though we were miles apart, the vision came together perfectly, and it was truly a team effort.
