Today, I’d like to share an inspiring story about how faith played a role in forming a special friendship and a beautiful love story. It all started at a women’s conference and led to a remarkable bond and enduring friendship.
In the winter of 2021, my wife René attended a women’s prayer conference, where she met Esna. They immediately connected. During their conversation, Esna showed interest in my work as a designer jeweller. Esna and Archie had been dating for a couple of months and were thinking about getting engaged. Esna believed that meeting René wasn’t a coincidence and decided to pray about who should make their rings.
A few weeks later, Esna reached out to René. They chose to have their covenant rings made by me. I worked with Archie to create unique and meaningful rings that symbolised their relationship. When we delivered the rings halfway between Pretoria and Rustenburg at Leopards Rock, Hartbeespoort, Archi surprised Esna with a heartfelt proposal, marking the beginning of our close friendship.
Even though I am in Pretoria and the couple is in Rustenburg, we kept in touch, and our relationship turned into a cherished friendship with short day hikes and WhatsApp messages. We eagerly awaited the wedding, which was finally set for 27 April 2024, two and a half years after they got engaged. A week before the wedding, we met for a hike at Rosemary Hill, celebrated, and wrapped up this chapter, looking forward to the next one.
Then came an unexpected honour – Archie and Esna asked us to be their ring bearers. It was a surprise, and we humbly accepted. The wedding day which was held at Inyala Game Lodge was filled with joy and beauty, and being part of their special day in such an intimate way was profoundly touching.
The journey with Esna and Archie is one I will forever cherish. It reminded me that being a jeweller is not just about creating beautiful pieces but also about the connections and stories that come with them. Faith, friendship, and love are the true gems in our lives, and I am grateful to have experienced them so profoundly through this incredible journey.
