On 27 April 2024, I had the incredible honour of crafting a special wedding cake and cupcake display for a beautiful couple, Henco Hefer and René Herbst. Henco and I went to school together, and when his fiancée, René, discovered Steep Bakes through our Facebook page, it led to a wonderful opportunity to be part of their big day.
The initial consultation settled on a rustic naked cake design accompanied by 100 delectable cupcakes in various flavours. I began baking the week of the wedding, ensuring everything would be perfect for their celebration.
Just a few days before the wedding, I received an unexpected request from René. She wanted to surprise Henco, a massive Chelsea soccer fan, with a special nod to his favourite team on their special day. She envisioned incorporating this into the cake design while keeping the wedding colours of blue and pink, tying them into the design as well. Excited by the challenge, we brainstormed and found a design that René adored.
With creativity in full gear, I crafted a 15cm Moist Chocolate Cake with rich dark chocolate buttercream. I decorated it with white and navy vanilla buttercream, complementing the wedding colours. Fresh pink flowers added elegance, while a bride and groom topper brought a classic touch. To complete the surprise, I included the Chelsea logo printed on an edible fondant disc.
Seeing the reaction to the cake was truly rewarding. The blend of personal touches and elegant design made it a standout piece at their wedding which the couple loved, and the guests adored. It was one of the most special moments I’ve created, and I’m thrilled that the bride and groom loved their wedding creations, especially the homage to Henco’s favourite soccer team.
Being part of Henco and René’s special day and contributing to such a memorable celebration was an absolute joy. At Steep Bakes, we believe in making every occasion unique and unforgettable, and this wedding was a perfect example of that commitment.
