Initially, I was asked by Megan & i Photography to do the makeup & hair for this shoot, but then it turned into me & my husband being the models as well. I was so excited because hubby doesn’t always get to travel with me for shoots. So we made a mini road trip out of it & stayed in Clarens our first night – a beautiful little intimate town. I remember it was freezing when we arrived, so we first made a coffee stop as one would.
We drove to our shooting location in the Drakensberg at Sentinel Peak the next day. We eagerly unpacked & got ready for the shoot upon arrival. My first outfit was this beautiful wedding dress from Simone Couture with a leather jacket to edge things up. As it’s an elopement, after all. I remember it being a very ‘rocky’ dirt road till we reached our shooting point. We were just in time to capture the beautiful sunset. Megan & I wanted it to look very natural & not posed, and they had just the right recipe to get this vibe from us. They would tell my husband to whisper his favourite vegetables in my ear & he would say things like ‘brinjal’. We couldn’t contain our laughs & I just remember that setting the mood for the rest of the shoot, as it was so relaxed & so much fun.
The following day we woke up very early to catch the sunrise. We went to a different viewpoint in the Drakensberg, but luckily it was closer to where we stayed this time, so we took a quick walk to our shooting location. We also had different outfits. I wore a tight shimmery black dress & it was hubby’s turn for the leather jacket this time. Why wear one outfit for your wedding day if you can wear two? We didn’t have much time as sunrise waits for no one, but Megan & I delivered as always, and the photos turned out beautifully. This shoot was the beginning of the elopement era in South Africa.
