Let’s get you in the loop with the 2023 wedding trends! If you’re looking for inspiration for your 2023 wedding, you’ve come to the right place. We just love discussing the trends we think will be the next big thing this year!

Our favourite 2023 wedding trends cover everything from fashion to photography to florals. We’re confident you’ll see these trends making headlines throughout the year and we can’t wait to see how our a|WEDDING couples bring these trends to life!

1. Wedding Maximalism

Going BOLD and EXTRA for your wedding celebration. A maximalist wedding is all about luxurious, over-the-top details that make it a truly memorable and indulgent experience for the couple and their guests. This means: lots of colours, lots of patterns, and lots of textures! Maximalist weddings have a fun bold energy and give the couple a chance to let loose and provide their guests with something a bit different!

2. MORE colour

This is definitely a trend that a|WEDDING is fully on board with. Weddings in 2023 will be bringing back a lot of COLOR! Every table setting in a different colour, mismatched bridesmaids dresses, colour-blocked florals for aisle décor – think sophisticated but super FUN. We believe it will include bright shades of red, pink, orange, yellow, green and blue.

3. Love Drunk Blurry Photos

Those of you going this route will likely say, “TikTok made me do it.” Blurry photos are bringing the heat and will become more popular this year as couples want a fun and unique look for their wedding memories.

When going this route, look for a skilled photographer capable of shooting with and producing film photos to ensure they can deliver the really cool, retro look you’re going for.

4. Weekend-Long Celebrations

Planning a weekend-long itinerary of special experiences for guests is becoming super trendy, especially given the ever-rising popularity of multi-day celebrations. This can be from an informal Friday evening braai to the Saturday wedding celebration to a Sunday brunch.

5. A Big Farewell

Send-offs have always been integral to wedding ceremonies, and this year the tradition will rise to new heights, according. This can be done with an exciting sparkler exit, and event more creative with streamers, LED balloons, even pom poms.

6. Private last dance

A wedding day goes by so fast that having a private last dance is the perfect way to really take it all in once more before the night is over. If you are unable to stay until all your guests have departed, a private first dance can also take place – typically this will happen while the reception space is has been set up and the DJ is testing the music and can play your song for the two of you before all your guests arrive. A fun way to get the nerves to disappear!

7. More intimate weddings

This might have been a trend that started due to the pandemic cutting numbers or having smaller, more intimate weddings are proving to become more and more popular.

According to hitched.co.uk, pre-pandemic couples invited an average of 102 guests in total to celebrate their day with them, but this has since dipped to an average of 72.

8. Statement aisles

A statement wedding aisle is a really fun and creative way to add a personal touch to your ceremony, and it’s something that your guests will definitely remember. Some of our favourites include drawing inspiration from fashion runways, interior design trends, and nature.

9. Colourful wedding dresses

If you’re planning your wedding and you’re thinking about wearing a colourful wedding dress, that it’s a fantastic idea! A colourful wedding dress is such a fun and unique way to add some personality and flair to your big day, and there are so many amazing options out there to choose from. Floral gowns, pink wedding dresses, blue wedding dresses, or even a red wedding dress! We can’t wait for pop of colour in weddings this year!

10. Capes & Bows

Capes are the perfect way to add some drama and glamour to your wedding look, and they’re perfect for brides who want to make a statement. We love all the bow details we are seeing this year as well – on capes, dresses, shoes and hair accessories! Bring on the bows + capes!
