A wedding is very personal to a couple as it tells a story about them. Everyone wants something slightly different in their dress, catering, styling or flowers. With 2019, various new trends were seen within the wedding industry. Personalisation in weddings and organic/natural aesthetics was a major trend. In 2020, these will remain top trends but we have some of the must-haves and most exciting wedding trends for the upcoming year.
Here are some of the top trends for 2020:
- Keep it relaxed and informal
This is one of the top trends for 2020. Inviting tons of guests and having a large wedding is something of the past, as the new trend is all about small and intimate gatherings and sharing your special day with your nearest and dearest. Many couples spend their budget more lavishly on their décor and catering at their wedding when they have an intimate group. This trend is also known as ‘micro weddings’ and tend to have a guest lift of around 40 carefully chosen individuals. These weddings are more informal and include personal touches in many aspects of the wedding like private wine tastings or personalised wedding favours for each guest. The newlyweds also get the opportunity to spend more one on one time with their guests.
- Go big or go home
Deciding on a minimal guestlist, does not mean the entire wedding should be minimal. Oversized décor and statement pieces are extremely trendy in 2020; for example, giant balloons and massive centrepieces which will leave your guests in awe.
- The understated dress
For 2020, a wedding dress with pockets is seen to be a large trend, as functionality and comfortability takes centre stage. Minimalism in wedding gowns have been seen to grow more popular amongst brides in 2019 and 2020 will be no exception. Modern, elegant and chic has become a large trend and the brides showcase extravagance with an incredible veil. Sleeves on wedding gowns are making a comeback and is paired with a beautiful backless dress to balance the look.
- Sustainable in every way
Now more than ever, couples are looking to host their wedding responsibly. This means the newlyweds cut back on wastage and being as eco-friendly as possible. This can be done by getting married at a wedding venue which has an in-house catering. Another way couples have a sustainable wedding is to upcycle or committing to zero waste – this is done by going plastic-free during the wedding or to give the flowers to a charitable cause. Eco-friendly invitations and confetti are also a great way to support a sustainable wedding.
These are only a few trends that will be apparent in 2020. With a combination of Individuality, minimalism and elegant extravagance, your wedding in 2020 will be nothing shy of spectacular!
