All brides want to look their best for their wedding, and if this means getting into shape, then it helps to have a few fun workouts to choose from when drawing up a fitness plan. This post, courtesy of the exercise specialists Start Fitness, aims to help newlyweds-to-be get fit while enjoying each other’s company – making sure that on the big day, both bride and groom will look their best and have a natural glow that can only come from regular, effective exercise.
Playing sport against each other is a way to introduce a little friendly competition into your relationship, and it’s one of the best ways to get fit without even realising. Many fitness experts laud the benefits of racquet sports such as tennis, badminton and squash as a way of getting some easy aerobic exercise, all while improving hand-eye coordination. Just remember to keep it friendly, no matter how competitive you and your spouse-to-be are!
Swim in the AM
There are a lot of benefits to getting active at first light, not least that it activates your metabolism early to help you burn calories and kick-starts the day with an endorphin rush.
Going for a morning swim with your spouse-to-be will help you lock into a solid morning routine as you’ll motivate each other to get up and get going. Swimming is a full body workout that’s scalable for all skill levels – so whether it’s the local pool or a first-light sea dip, you’ll be able to easily incorporate this into your pre-marriage workout regime.
Exploring is one of the best things to do as an engaged couple, be it your local area or the wider world. You’re about to embark on the adventure that is marriage, so why not take things more literally and go hiking or cycling together? This can be done either as part of a multi-day trip or by simple daily sojourns around local beauty spots. You’ll reap the toning and calorie-burning benefits of regular aerobic exercise, all while exploring new places and creating memories with the one you love.
Try some home workouts
If exploring isn’t an option and you’d rather exercise at home, you can still feel the benefit of a workout without leaving your house. If neither of you have tried yoga before, buy some mats and learn together with instructional videos – an exercise habit sure to raise some laughs as you try to get into tricky yogic poses!
Pilates is another simple home exercise option, as an alternative to yoga. Both these exercise regimes promote mindfulness and relaxation alongside physical benefits – and you won’t have to invest in expensive home gym equipment, which is always a bonus when it comes to the budget for the wedding itself!
Curate a holistic diet
Be sure to make your pre-wedding workout stick by adding plenty of protein to your diet. Protein is needed to increase your metabolism and build muscle, making it an ideal addition to any lead-up diet before the big day. Sources of protein include lean meats, lentils and fish – so take the time to enjoy rustling up some exciting new meals with your partner, and maybe even find some new favourites.
Don’t necessarily exclude any non diet-friendly foods, just reduce your intake of them – you need to be comfortable with your wedding preparations and binding yourself to a strict diet that you’re not comfortable with isn’t great for your morale. Adding protein to your existing diet and going on fun, shared exercise trips with your spouse-to-be promotes mental wellbeing alongside physical wellness.
We hope you’ve taken on some of the tips present in this piece, but remember, your wedding is your own – so you should prepare for it in any way you wish. Just make sure the day itself is everything you’ve dreamed of!
