Where did you meet each other?
Bloemfontein. I got a random invite on Facebook from a Attie van Heerden, seeing on my profile that I like cycling and the outdoors. He said he wanted to meet me, I look like a fun type of girl. First thought: stalker!! But I said “if you want to meet me, come to my spinning class” (I am an instructor). Thinking that you can’t be too careful. We went for a couple of coffees afterwards and the rest is history! 5 years later he proposed!
In short, tell us about your wedding day:
A Threefold cord is not quickly broken – Ecclesiastes 4:12
‘n Driedubbele tou breek nie maklik nie – Prediker 4:12
Our whole day was planned with God as our center, we wanted Him to be part of everything – He was absolutely present during the entire day!!
We got married at Oranje Guest farm close to Fouriesburg between the most beautiful mountains. We had a couple of memorable moments starting with when my fiancé asked to pray for us just before we met in the chapel. He asked to hold my hand while I was standing in my room and he just around the corner so that he couldn’t see me. It was incredible when I walked down the isle with my father, and saw the look on Attie’s face! We were filled mixed emotions of relieve AND excitement – we finally made it!!
We enjoyed our special day with all of our friends and the joining of two families will always be a memorable day.
Dancing with my father on our father and daughter dance was so emotional and special. With our dancing shoes on, Mr and Mrs van Heerden pulled off the ultimate romantic end to our wedding dance!
What is your definition of a successful marriage?
COMMUNICATION, COMMUNICATION, COMMUNICATION!!! Always communicate with each other, good and bad.
Always be honest with each other. And have each others’ backs, never let the other one fall, or don’t embarrass each other in front of others etc.
