As newlyweds there will be many ‘firsts’ in the upcoming months and even years – first house, first holiday, first fight, first baby and so on. And while there are certain things, old things, that you will most definitely bring from your previous life into the matrimony, an old bed is not the kind baggage you really want in the bedroom. Buying your first (new) bed together is a necessity much like a dishwasher and should be given careful thought and consideration.
It’s understandable that you won’t be thinking about sleep that much, especially while you’re in the honeymoon phase, though mulling it over might pay off in the long term. The quality of sleep you and your S.O. will be getting, will determine the success you experience in your marriage and outside. To help you choose the right first mattress for your matrimony The Bed Shop, an exclusive retailer of Dynamic Bedding, shared these guidelines:
1. Size matters
Yes, we know there’s probably no such thing as too big, but if your master bedroom in your starter home can only accommodate a double bed, you should reconsider the king size bed for now. Cramping up the room will inevitably make you both avoid the bedroom for all the wrong reasons. No one is suggesting you opt for a three quarter, maybe just consider a double or queen size bed instead.
2. It’s what’s on the inside that counts
Have you heard of these terms before: bonnel spring, pocket spring, memory foam, latex foam, poly foam? No? Well, these are all materials used to manufacture quality beds. You can research online beforehand and get an idea of how they will affect your comfort level and budget. Dynamic Bedding only uses the very best materials available to manufacture its beds.
3. Feelings matter too
Yes, your feelings matter, but we’re actually referring to what the bed feels like. As a couple you’ll be sharing a bed for six to eight hours almost every night. You will need to agree on what kind of bed you both want – plush, firm or gentle firm. And the only way to do this is to actually take a trip to your nearest The Bed Shop and ‘test drive’ a few mattresses together. Spend at least 10 minutes lying down on both your back and sides to feel what is most comfortable for both of you. You can find your nearest The Bed Shop here.
4. Think long-term
Buying a quality bed might be expensive now but ultimately, it’s an investment in your health and relationship. Keep in mind that a good quality bed will last you between 8 to 10 years, depending on the quality of the mattress that you’re sleeping on. While Dynamic Bedding manufactures beds that suits every budget, it’s definitely worth considering a bed that is bit more expensive in terms of the materials used. It’s all about compromise which is something you should start practicing now. *Hint-hint, nudge-nudge*
