For the month of March I had the privilege to join the lovely ladies at the Garsfontein Adventure Boot Camp. At first I was a bit worried, will I be fit enough? Will I be strong enough? A thousand thoughts went through my head, but once I’ve met Liz who was our trainer for the month and some of my fellow campers I soon realised that I only had to compete against myself and that no one was too old or unfit to be part of the boot camp community.
For those of you who’s not familiar with this type of exercise, no… I am not talking about a military training camp for new recruits with very harsh discipline! I am referring to something much more fun and adventurous. A community for like-minded woman of all ages and fitness levels, who comes together for something much more than exercise alone, but for a place where they feel like they belong.
Adventure boot camp started in 2005, with only 30 woman and 1 location. Today, 13 years later, there are more than 24 000 campers per year and more than 60 locations nationwide. Click here to find the camp closest to you: https://www.adventurebootcamp.co.za/web/locations/
The duration of every camp is 4 weeks long, and you can decide if you want to do 4, 12 or 20 sessions. Mondays consist of a full body work out, Tuesday is upper body and core, Wednesday: Cardio and legs, Thursday: Full body work out and Fridays is upper body and core. See the link below for more details:
There’s no joining fee, you can sign up from month-to month and all you need to take with you is your own exercise mat, small weights (1.5 – 3kg), a water bottle, running shoes, a towel and a positive mind-set.
Some of the exercises include: Short distance running, weight training, obstacle courses, core training, and a lot of skipping rope. The active resting day was my personal favourite! We played a game where you had to pick two cards, do both exercises on the cards twice, run and then come back to pick another two cards. This continued until we did all the cards.
We ended the camp with this fun exercise:
As you can see in the video, at boot camp you have fun while you exercise. Best of all you even get to spend time outdoors, but don’t worry al the camps have the facilities to train indoors should it rain. There were days during the past month where the rain poured down, but that didn’t stop us! Since I joined the boot camp community, exercise became fun. I made other arrangements to ensure that I don’t miss boot camp, as you make time for the things you enjoy doing. Needless to say I enjoyed the time with my new boot camp friends so much that I made time for it in my busy work schedule. I believe that every woman owes it to herself to put some time aside for her own wellbeing.
Exercise plays such an important role in our lives and I would like to encourage all our beautiful brides to be not only exercise before your wedding, but also to keep doing it afterwards. Don’t do it for anyone but yourself, it’s an hour a day and believe me you will not only look better, but you will also feel better! Boot camp is indeed life changing!
There’s also a loyalty program: https://www.adventurebootcamp.co.za/web/training-info/loyalty-programme/ and you can earn up to 100 fitness points with Discovery Vitality or Momentum Multiply.
I can’t wait for my next camp! Ladies, why wait any longer? Invest in yourself and join the boot camp family. The next camp starts 9 April, so book your place now! https://www.adventurebootcamp.co.za/web/
